We provide a range of tours and activities for people of all ages and interests coming to Cape Clear Island or exploring Roaringwater Bay.

We offer a range of options so that groups can create the package which best suits them. Of course, the possibilities are infinite so even if it's not specifically mentioned please ask and we shall endeavour to provide !

Our regular day trip consists of the boat trip, lunch and one activity lasting approximately one and a half hours and some free time to enjoy the island. Groups staying overnight can avail of additional activities at their convenience.

Meals - Siopa Beag Restaurant

These are provided by An Siopa Beag Restaurant to suit age and taste. Our school tours menu includes a range of main dishes accompanied by complimentary soft drinks. As the restaurant is open year round, teachers or leaders can avail of our "a la carte menu" and Vegetarian options are always available. See our website www.siopabeag.ie

Visit Schull at no extra cost

We operate a reciprocal arrangement with Schull Ferry Service which allows groups embarking from either Baltimore or Schull to return via the other ferry instead. This facility can also be used to accommodate larger groups using both ferries.

Tours and Activities - Recommended for Day Trips

Guided walking tour to Cape Clear Heritage Centre and Goat Farm

This tour normally takes approximately 2 hours and we provide a local guide for every 25 students. This is a general interest tour, covering history, folklore and the natural environment in an age-appropriate manner. Our guides are competent in English and Irish and when requested we can also provide guided tours in German, French and Spanish. The tour includes a 30 min. visit to Cléire Goat where Ed Harper presents a short introduction to goats and goat farming. This is followed by a visit to the Island's well-appointed Heritage Centre where the displays are regularly updated.

Suitable for young people

The session lasts approximately one and a half hours and is suitable for groups of 25-50 and includes the following:

A number of traditional Irish tunes

A taste of island storytelling with a story based on the history of Cape Clear - age related.

A demonstration of the basic céile dance steps and one or two dances.

One or two simple songs in Irish and English - the children will be taught how to sing a chorus in Irish.

The option of a certificate (1 per person) confirming that the participant has sung and danced in Irish.*

Storytelling by the fireside with Chuck Kruger

Béarla amháin ( available in English only)

Renowned local author, broadcaster and founder of the Cape Clear International Storytelling Festival Chuck Kruger is available to tell stories to groups of 20-50 school children in the atmospheric Club. Duration One and a half hours, suitable for children of all ages.

Tour of Roaringwater Bay

For groups with limited time available we offer a range of 2-hour cruises from Baltimore to a number of popular destinations including Lough Hyne, The Fastnet Rock and the Ten Island Cruise operated by Sherkin Island Ferry Service. A full commentary is provided on all our tours. This is an ideal option for groups wishing to visit other attractions in the area such as Lough Hyne, Skibbereen Heritage Centre, The Model Village. Cléire Lasmuigh Island Adventure Sports

Cléire Lasmuigh offer a range of adventure activities including snorkelling, kayaking, power kiting, archery and team challenges. They provide a two hour package suitable for day groups or more extensive suitable for groups staying longer. Full details available elsewhere on site, see below.

Dolphin and whale watching on the Liscannor Star

Our second boat, the Liscannor Star, is especially designed for whale and dolphin watching and can brings groups up to 30 miles offshore. She caters for a maximum of 12 passengers per trip and is particularly suitable for small groups of older students with specific interest in bird or sea watching.

All our Skippers have a broad interest in the natural environment but we can also provide experienced ornithologists or naturalists to accompany groups at sea or indeed on land-based walking tours. Trips normally last from 2-4 hours and are priced accordingly. See www.liscannorstar.com

Cape Clear Island Hostel - Accommodation for Groups

The Old Coastguard Station, South Harbour, Cape Clear Island, County Cork, Ireland provides atmospheric hostel style accommodation for groups of up to 42 and is overseen by genial hosts Risteard and Janet Fenlon. Table tennis, chess and other games are available for the odd rainy day. The hostel is well kept, is located beside a beach, and is only a short walking distance from North Harbour and other amenities, 028-41968. www.anoige.fenlon.net




Milking Time at the Goat Farm

Ed Harper hosts small groups of visitors who wish to observe and participate in the daily morning milking at the goat farm. This option is limited to groups of 10-12. Cost 2.50 p.p.





Fieldwork with Dr Geoff Oliver


Local ecologist and authority of Island wildlife Dr Geoff Oliver hosts half or full day sessions of field work on botany, seashore animals and plants and ornithology for students at transition year level or higher. High Speed Sea Safari Experience

Our high speed rigid inflatable craft is a thrilling experience for young and old alike and an ideal way to see some of our outstanding sea views. This option is also available from Baltimore. Limited to groups of 12, minimum age limit 8 years, trips last 30 mins.

Upon receipt of booking deposit we forward a copy of this bilingual guide to the Island to assist teachers/leaders in preparation for their visit.










Cartoon History of
Oileán Chléire

We publish a cartoon history of the Island which is designed to stimulate the interest of younger children. This can be seen on our website under Cape Clear Island and is available at €1.00 per copy. For the moment the published version in available in English only.
