Press ReleaseCailin Óir Ferry Service plans to operate a new service between Schull and Cape Clear Island this year.

Cailín Óir Ferry Service shares the dismay of many tourism service providers both in Shcull and on Cape Clear Island that the much loved Karycraft ferry service between Schull and Cléire operated by the Molloy Family for many years will not operate from this year onwards. While the pristine beauty of this iconic ferry route remains unchanged, nothing can replace the songs and stories with which the two Kieron’s, Father and Son have enlivened the journey for their many satisfied passengers. Cailín Óir has decided to operate an alternative service between Schull and Cape Clear Island using our relief vessel Dún Aengus. This will operate two days a week in June and five days from 1 July to 25 August. Our website, is now operational and both brochures and posters will be distributed shortly. Like our Baltimore service tickets can be purchased in advance online and this year we are offering a 10% discount on the stated fares to passengers on the Schull route. The adult return is €16 and other fares are ‘pro rata’. As is 2012 we will again operate a regular cruise around the Fastnet Rock on Wednesdays and Saturdays when weather conditions are suitable. Passengers embarking from either Schull can travel onwards to Baltimore, or visa versa at no extra cost. .There is also the option of a day return cruise from Schull to Baltimore, taking in a short stay on Cape Clear Island. From 14 July to 14 August this will also be possible for passengers originating in Baltimore and wishing to make a day return to Schull. This year we also hope to encourage two way traffic by enticing visitors staying on Cape Clear Island to visit Schull or Baltimore on day trips and to this end are offering a special day return fare for only €10 to passengers originating on the Island. We offer reciprocal links on both our websites to other local service providers and anyone interested in this or indeed in seeking more information on the proposed service should contact or 02941923/39159.
